What is Chemical Fiprex Cat?

Chemical Fiprex Cat is a veterinary antiparasitic medicine for cats. It comes in a 0.7 ml pipette containing 52.5 mg of fipronil. The solution is applied to the skin by spot-on application to the back.

This formulation is for cats only. It must not be substituted with a pipette intended for dogs, nor used on rabbits.

What is the pipette for cats used for?

It is indicated for infestations with adult fleas (Ctenocephalides felis) and the tick Dermacentor reticulatus. In cats, the insecticidal activity against new flea infestations can last up to 9 days. The acaricidal activity against the indicated species may last up to 2 weeks.

These durations are specific to the feline formulation. The minimum interval between applications is 4 weeks, and its use should be tailored to the actual risk of infestation and the cat’s lifestyle.

Composition of Chemical Fiprex Cat

Each pipette contains 52.5 mg of fipronil, 2.1 mg of butylhydroxytoluene (E 321) and 2.1 mg of butylhydroxyanisole (E 320). The formulation is completed with povidone, isopropanol and diethylene glycol monoethyl ether.

How do you apply the pipette to a cat?

1. Open the pipette by removing the tip.
2. Part the fur between the shoulder blades until the skin is visible.
3. Squeeze the entire contents directly onto the skin.
4. If the liquid runs off, apply it to several nearby spots in the same area.

Prevent the cat from licking the area and stop other pets from licking it too. Avoid bathing or immersing the cat for the following 2 days. Do not repeat the application for at least 4 weeks.

Which cats is it suitable for?

It can be used on cats aged at least 2 months and weighing at least 1 kg. It must not be administered to younger or lighter kittens, sick or convalescing animals, or applied to wounds or damaged skin.

Possible side effects

In very rare cases, itching, irritation, hair loss or discolouration have been observed at the application site. If the cat licks the product, it may experience excessive salivation, vomiting, lethargy or hypersensitivity. These reactions usually subside within 24 hours, but should be reported to your vet.

Important precautions

Avoid contact with the eyes, mouth and skin. Wash your hands afterwards. Children should not play with the cat until the area is dry. During pregnancy or lactation, the product should only be used following assessment by a vet.

Do not contaminate ponds, ditches or watercourses with the contents or the packaging. Store the pipette below 25 °C, without refrigeration, and keep it out of the reach of children.
