What is Chemical Fiprex L for dogs weighing 20 to 40 kg?

Chemical Fiprex L for dogs weighing 20 to 40 kg is an antiparasitic spot-on treatment. It contains 300 mg of fipronil in 4 ml. This formulation is intended for large dogs within that weight range.

It is administered as a single application to the back. It is an over-the-counter veterinary medicine, but must be used in accordance with the package leaflet and the animal’s actual weight.

What is Fiprex L used for?

It is indicated for infestations caused by the flea Ctenocephalides felis and by the ticks Rhipicephalus sanguineus and Dermacentor reticulatus. Its insecticidal activity against new infestations of adult fleas can last up to 8 weeks. Against the ticks indicated, the acaricidal activity may last for up to 4 weeks.

If the dog already has ticks, some may remain attached for the first 48 hours. Elimination may be completed over the following week.

Composition of Chemical Fiprex L

The pipette contains 300 mg of fipronil. It also contains 12 mg of butylhydroxytoluene (E 321), 12 mg of butylhydroxyanisole (E 320), povidone, isopropanol and diethylene glycol monomethyl ether.

How to apply the 4 ml?

1. Weigh the dog to check that it weighs between 20 and 40 kg.
2. Remove the tip from the pipette.
3. Part the fur between the shoulder blades.
4. Apply the entire contents to the skin. If necessary, divide the dose between several nearby spots to prevent it from running off.

The chosen area must be out of reach of the dog’s tongue. Keep the dog separate from other pets until the area is dry. Do not repeat the application for at least 4 weeks and avoid bathing the dog for the following 2 days.

Dogs suitable for this pipette

It is intended for dogs weighing between 20 and 40 kg and at least 2 months old. It must not be used on dogs weighing less than this, on sick or convalescing animals, or on damaged skin. Its use is contraindicated in cats and rabbits.

What side effects may occur?

Itching, irritation, discolouration, hair loss or a greasy appearance at the application site have been reported. Licking may cause excessive salivation, vomiting, lethargy or hypersensitivity. Seek veterinary advice if any symptoms occur.

Precautions for the animal and the user

Do not allow the contents to come into contact with the eyes, mouth, wounds or broken skin. Wash your hands after application. Keep children away from the dog until the application site is dry. During pregnancy or lactation, the decision should be made by a vet.

Store at a temperature below 25 °C and do not refrigerate. Do not dispose of any residue or packaging in watercourses. The dog must also not bathe in them for the following 2 days.
