What is Chemical Fiprex XL for very large dogs?

Chemical Fiprex XL for dogs weighing 40 to 55 kg is a spot-on antiparasitic treatment. Each pipette contains 5.5 ml and provides 412.5 mg of fipronil. This dosage is intended for the specified weight range, so it should not be chosen based solely on the animal’s apparent size.

The contents are applied to the skin between the shoulder blades. The pack includes a pipette ready for immediate use once opened.

Which infestations is it indicated for?

It is used on dogs with infestations of adult fleas (Ctenocephalides felis) and ticks of the species Rhipicephalus sanguineus or Dermacentor reticulatus. The insecticidal activity against new fleas can last for up to 8 weeks. The acaricidal activity against the specified ticks can last up to 4 weeks.

Ticks attached prior to application may take up to a week to die. It is therefore advisable to continue with regular checks of the coat.

Composition of the XL pipette

Each pipette contains 412.5 mg of fipronil, 16.5 mg of butylhydroxytoluene (E 321) and 16.5 mg of butylhydroxyanisole (E 320). The other excipients are povidone, isopropanol and diethylene glycol monoethyl ether.

Instructions for use

1. Weigh the dog as accurately as possible.
2. Open the pipette by removing the tip.
3. Part the fur between the shoulder blades to expose the skin.
4. Apply the 5.5 ml directly. You can apply the liquid at several points close together to prevent it from running off.

Prevent the dog or its companions from licking the area. Allow at least 4 weeks to pass before the next application. Do not bathe the dog for the following 2 days.

Which dogs is it suitable for?

The XL size is suitable for dogs weighing 40 to 55 kg and aged 2 months or older. It must not be used on dogs weighing less than 40 kg, on sick or convalescing dogs, or on broken skin. It is designed for dogs only; do not administer to cats or rabbits.

Reported adverse reactions

Itching, irritation, hair loss or discolouration, and a greasy appearance may occur at the application site. If the animal licks the liquid, this may cause excessive salivation, vomiting, lethargy or hypersensitivity. Contact your vet if you notice these or any other reactions.

Precautions and storage

Avoid contact between the product and the skin, mouth or eyes. Wash your hands after application. Children must not touch the animal until the area has dried. Consult your vet before use during pregnancy or whilst the dog is nursing.

Store the pipette below 25 °C and do not refrigerate it. Fipronil is harmful to aquatic organisms. Ensure that the product, the packaging or the dog immediately after application do not enter watercourses.
